Biography

The first fifty years

Gottlieb Guntern spent his childhood in an Alpine village in the Canton of Valais. He studied medicine and psychiatry in Switzerland, France and the USA. His research in systems sciences and his numerous publications won him the position of lecturer at universities and post-graduate institutions. At the age of 50, and after 20 years of working as a systems therapist, the medical director of a pilot centre gave up his job to dedicate his time and energy to research in creativity.

Expert on creativity and leadership – author of topic books

Today Gottlieb Guntern is a creativity and leadership expert of international renown. He works as a special advisor and coach for the top management of multinational corporations worldwide. He is the co-founder and chairman of the International CREANDO Symposium on Creative Leadership. Several of his topic books have been translated into other languages. In 1993 his leadership study Im Zeichen des Schmetterling (In the Sign of the Butterfly) was the No.1 topic book bestseller in Switzerland; in our day of political and economic global crises the core message of the book is more important and timely than ever.

Writer

In 2001 Gottlieb Guntern published HIMBEER-HULDA (RASPERRY-HULDA, Portrait of a Small Town). The novel describes how the establishment deals with two eccentrics whose imagination produces a creative invention that radically changes traditional forms of child rearing. It is a turbulent portrayal of the proprieties encompassing the force and joie-de-vivre of a Breughel. The satire combines eroticism, humour, hilarity and mordant irony.

Songwriter - cantautore

Over the past 15 years Gottlieb Guntern has composed quite a number of songs. The lyrics, full of imagination and poetry, give an insight into his rich life experience.
For years the cantautore (Italian word for a songwriter who composes the music, writes the lyrics and sings his own songs) has been working with top musicians on the international scene. He has produced four CDs but not put them on the market for they do not meet his artistic standards. The fifth attempt, however, met the challenge. His CD sun trail contains nine songs and features excellent musicians from three continents: the santoor virtuoso Pandit Ulhas Bapat in Mumbai/India; an Afro-American jazz combo in San Francisco/USA; and musicians in Switzerland.
The next CD is currently under production.

Gottlieb Guntern is married to the visual artist Greta Guntern-Gallati. www.greta.guntern.org
